#SaturdayFF It’s my FIRST BIRTHDAY!! Not my real birthday, but more an anniversary, since my transplant where received my new bone marrow! Cool science fact: once you receive the donor’s marrow (and all else goes well) your blood type changes to that of the donors! Crazeee no?
So, really soon after your transfusion, I’m talking less than an hour…a nurse comes in to give you this strange letter that you need to sign for, you’re thinking “huh, who’s sending me mail!? And why’re they bringing it to me now!!?” Because you still have a loonnnnng ways to go really. Well the letter is from Alberta Health Services with this card (see below :) saying, “with the receipt of your new stem cells your blood type, has now changed to that of the donors medical jargon etc blah blah”. I used to be A+ and now I’m O (AB for plasma) !! WHOOooOOOOOOOHOOoo!!!!
Anyways, further to this, they tell you that it takes you a year +’ish depending on, well you know a variety of things. So, it’s now a year and my latest blood work has come back with really positive results, I don’t wanna say I’m cured (always a chance of relapse), but I think I’m cured :) HELL YEEAHHAAAHHHH! -
I’ve been waiting for that year, long time coming for sure, but now I can smile :D and I think it’s about time I changed my bio and feel the freedom to go on and write the rest of my life. ~OMG I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!! Hahahhahhahaa !! Great, now I gotta think of something to write :)
Note: #SaturdayFF’ing is a FriendFeed thing, like a way to engage the community, get to know one another etc. Thought I’d hit it here
~~side note: I was always going to share this, but Miran’s story: http://ff.im/NlaaM spurred me to share it even more. There’s NO such thing Leukemia as a preexisting condition #OWS
